Hello, RESO! We’re back with our final rendering of the RESO Monthly in 2021, and we are pleased to see you embrace this new endeavor.
We hurled a mountain of content at you last month after our packed fall conference. This month, we tone down the word count a notch, but the content lying in wait for your exploration is no less important to peruse!
RESO has new board members, NAR passed new policy changes, and the workgroups have approved many new changes and additions. It’s all here, ready for action! But our first story is one of rest. Enjoy your end-of-year holidays. We would literally be nothing without you.
RESO to Reset During Last Week of December
RESO will be in a state of quietude from December 23, 2021, to January 2, 2022. Inspired by our good friend, T-RETS (see the next story), the RESO staff will be taking some “T” (time for) – REST.
Our office will be closed, and email, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Slack, phones, text messages…all turned off.
An increasing number of educational and professional institutions have recognized that time spent unplugged and out of the daily race is exactly what’s needed to refuel creative problem solving. RESO is now aboard this call to inaction, and we hope that you are all able to do something similar in your lives.

T-RETS Extinction Countdown: The Comet Cometh for Dinosaur MLS Tech
The real estate industry has long talked about transitioning forward from a 20-year-old data transport method. RETS (Real Estate Transaction Standard) was the industry’s first set of rules for moving data between systems in a standardized fashion.
The transition to the RESO Web API is no longer an “if” but a “when.” The floppy disk, the CD-ROM and the Zip drive may all still work, just as RETS does, yet these methods of data storage and transfer are no way to support a modern technology organization.

News for RESO Members from the NAR Conference
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) conference held in San Diego during November 2021 did not disappoint. The SoCal weather was outstanding, the fish tacos were divine, the conference content was stellar, the lobby bar debates were spirited, suite presentations were in high gear, somebody won a Tesla and other festivities went off without a hitch. RESO was present and accounted for on the expo floor and in the middle of policy discussions that will affect the industry at large.
MLS Policy Changes: One Feed, Back Office Data, Web API
The NAR Board of Directors approved six recommendations from the Multiple Listing Issues and Policies Committee. If you haven’t checked them out yet, they are all published on NAR’s website. Emerging Tech
Multiple educational sessions centered around the role of new technologies in the real estate landscape. Members of NAR’s Strategic Business, Innovation and Technology group discussed AI, 5G and other real estate tech trends. Up to $25 billion per year is being invested in proptech across the globe, and $10 billion of that is being invested in the U.S.

Subgroup Spotlight – CRE and Tax Subgroups
Commercial real estate (CRE) and tax records are logical next-step realms in which RESO can help apply data standards. Thus, two subgroups were formed under the purview of the Data Dictionary Workgroup.
The CRE Subgroup is headed by Nathan Graham from RPR. The group’s leadership is working on its initial data mapping across submitted metadata by multiple commercial companies. It will reconvene to analyze the first version of the mapping document at the completion of this work. | CRE Subgroup CALL NOTES

The two groups have a certain amount of connectivity, as shown by a recent report called “Taking Property Tax Digital,” written by the Altus Group to discuss how digitalization is accelerating opportunities for commercial property taxpayers worldwide. It’s a fascinating read. Within the report, it is noted how the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) has joined RESO in order to develop standards to enhance the consistency and accuracy of property information. | VIEW REPORT

Transport Workgroup | November 1, 2021
The group approved the creation of an endorsement for the Lookup resource in order to include it in the certification process for Data Dictionary 1.7, when present, then continued the discussion of creating a predictable standard for local extension. Showing Subgroup | November 3 and 17, 2021
The subgroup stepped through the fields of the five suggested showing resources (Showing, ShowingAvailability, ShowingRequest, ShowingAppointment, ShowingFeedback) and decided whether any changes needed to be made. Data Dictionary Workgroup | November 18, 2021
The group covered a lot of ground on a total of 15 topics over an extended 90-minute meeting that included eight formal votes, a name change of Data Dictionary 1.8 to Data Dictionary 2.0 and the formation of three focus groups and continued discussions on a variety of topics. Anything that was voted into Data Dictionary 1.9 will become something beyond 2.0, as 1.8 was closed and is simply receiving a name change. | Data Dictionary Workgroup CALL NOTES
Certification Subgroup | November 18, 2021
The group reviewed Data Dictionary 2.0 testing rules in preparation for a January 2022 release and discussed testing rules and tools for the Lookup Resource, which currently has implementations that need to be certified for Data Dictionary 1.7. Research & Development Workgroup | December 2, 2021

Unique Licensee Identifier (ULI) Subgroup | December 3, 2021

Board Liaison Committee | December 3, 2021
This meeting is held once per month in order to give workgroup chairs an opportunity to converse about their top agenda items, request help from each other and provide summary reports to the RESO Board of Directors. Transport Workgroup | December 6, 2021
The workgroup reviewed the proposed testing rules for the Lookup resource, which was approved as an addition to DD 1.7 by the Data Dictionary and Certification groups and is currently in development; the related Field resource was also discussed. Data Dictionary 2.0 testing rules were approved by the Certification Subgroup in the November 2021 meeting and reviewed by the Transport Workgroup.
